Fed: Telstra looking to buy Thailand phone shares report
Telstra is reportedly trying to secure a slice of Thailand's mobile phone market with
a $500 million offer to Total Access Communications.
The telecommunications giant has confirmed it's discussing obtaining 25 per cent of
Thailand's second-largest mobile phone company.
The Australian newspaper quotes a Telstra spokesman as saying the company's confident
of an outcome of the talks soon.
A successful deal with Total Access' two-thirds owner United Communications Industry
would likely represent Telstra's largest offshore investment.
Shares in Telstra Corp soared more than six per cent yesterday after investors favoured
chief executive ZIGGY SWITKOWSKI's suggestion it float its mobile phone and Internet assets
in the future.
